Toddlers

Toddlers run from 10:30-12:00 on both Monday and Thursdays each week during term time. It's a drop-in group for children aged 0-5 and their carers. We have two rooms- a large space with ride-on toys, various small toys, books, cars, role play, and dolls- and a craft room with a different opportunity to stick/ paint/ colour each week. We also have playdough and other sensory activities such as water play. Each session costs £1.50 per family and includes a drink and biscuit for the children and tea, filter coffee and biscuits for the adults. We finish each week with singing time featuring shakers and nursery rhymes. For more details please contact Jackie Davies, Children and Family worker,

Boys' Brigade Anchor boy Section

Meeting every Monday between 6 pm and 7 pm at Altrincham Methodist Church for boys aged between 5 and 8.

The programme in the Anchor Boys offers them so much. A time packed with games and songs, crafts, and stories expressly designed for their ages. But, there is more than they realise. They will find more because Anchor Boys offers the first chance to work together, to co-operate in a joint activity. To work (or play) as a team.

For further details contact Lee Renwick on 07958301744 or email leerenwick@hotmail.com

Boys' Brigade Junior Section

Meet Mondays from 6 pm to 7:30 pm for boys aged between 8 and 11.

The Junior Section offers a lot of support and encouragement. The programme is a full and varied one. Lots of physical activities, music, crafts, games, and competitions usually undertaken in groups rather than on an individual level to avoid exposing any lack of skill in an individual.

There are awards- a huge variety of some 2000 subjects catering for just about every possible interest of a member and at the same time encouraging him to explore other new activities and occupations.

The young boy has a world to discover, and early concentration on one small aspect can mean that much is missed in life. This is the time for a balanced all-round programme- which includes spiritual and social input, as well as physical and adventure activities.

No Strings Puppet Ministry

The group, which started following a visit to a Youth Ministry event in Eastbourne, about 12 years ago, meets for practice most Monday evenings from 7 pm to 9 pm. This is quite a commitment but we do what we do for God so we want it to be good and... practice makes perfect!

We are currently small in number with only seven members, six puppeteers, and one ‘techie’! We are trying to recruit new members, from both within and outside the church!!

We do have churches that we get invited to on a regular basis in places such as, West Kirby, Hoylake, Wigan, Runcorn, Timperley and, of course, Altrincham! I suppose our ‘claim to fame’ is Manchester Cathedral and we have also done a beach mission in Morfa Nefyn and traveled as far afield as Birmingham.

Altrincham Choral Society

We meet at Altrincham Methodist church to rehearse on Monday Evenings from 7.30 pm every week and also hold vocal training sessions for its membership, with singing days and termly open rehearsals for newcomers to come and meet the choir and explore their own voice potential and enjoy the thrill of singing.

Formed in 1945, The Altrincham and District Choral Society gave its first performance in the then Stamford Hall, in aid of the Altrincham General Hospital building fund.

Since then, the choir has continued to grow and offer its members and audience alike a rich tapestry of concerts and events.  With over 130 singers, Altrincham Choral Society prides itself on producing a diverse, innovative, and challenging programme of concerts and events, with a repertoire of not only choral favourites but also new commissions and collaborations with orchestras, choirs, and youth groups.

Performing regularly at The Royal Northern College of Music as well as other venues across the country, including The Bridgewater Hall, Gorton Monastery, The Lowry Theatre, Huddersfield Town Hall and St Paul’s Cathedral, ACS has also sung throughout Europe, including France, Prague, Lake Garda, Venice, and Florence.

Recent events have seen the choir performing on tour with Russell Watson (A Candlelight Christmas – 2014, An Intimate Evening With Russell Watson - 2015), lunchtime recitals at St Paul’s Cathedral (London – 2015, 2016) and in 2016 working with Barnsley Youth Choir (2015 European Triple Gold Medalists and Grand Prix Winners). Alongside their own concert schedule, the ACS 2017/18 season also includes a series of recitals at Carlisle Cathedral, Hexham Abbey, and central London.

The choir also supports local and national charities throughout the year through retiring collections and sales of their CD, Religion and Reel.  Previous charities have included St Ann’s Hospice, The Rainbow Family Trust, Macmillan, Barnardo’s, The Lord’s Taverners. This year the choir is supporting The David Lewis Centre.

AA - Thursday and Sunday

Thursday Group

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.

There are no fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions.

A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

The AA Meeting at Altrincham Methodist Church meets every Thursday between 7.30 pm-8.45 pm, and more than  220 other meetings in the Manchester Area in the course of the week. All ages are welcome.

Friday:

Quiz Night

The Quiz Nights happen about 10 times per year and normally on the last Friday of the month, commencing at 7.30 pm and finishing around 9.30 pm. Numbers vary but regularly average about 20 people per quiz and it’s really good to see that we get good support from Timperley Methodist Church and they often bring a team or two!

The quizzes are not meant to be money-making events, more social, but we do raise funds for various good causes. Earlier this year we sent a £1000 cheque to the North West Air Ambulance charity and the current good cause, the Neonatal Unit at Wythenshawe Hospital, has also been sent a cheque for £1000!! We are now fundraising for the new church roof and our target, again, is £1000.

In between times we do, ‘specials with food’ and have had numbers as high as 70, raising funds for Romania (two or three times), Love Russia and the Methodist Mission charity to mention a few.

If you would like more information please contact Steve Entwistle via st.office@traffordmethodist.org.uk

Music Group

The AMC Music group consists of 8 people singing in 4 parts. We lead worship on a Sunday morning before and during the service. Our age group is 50+ but we would love some younger voices to come and join us. We sing both modern and traditional songs/hymns accompanied by either piano or organ and meet for practice every Friday at 7.30 pm and then again on Sunday morning at 9.30 am before the service commences at 10.30.

You don’t need to read music but obviously it helps if you can.

If you are interested or fancy just coming along for a sing to see if you enjoy it please contact me, Graham Jackson on 0161 282 8647.
