Exploring Faith

Curious about God? Unsure where to begin? You’re in the right place.

Faith isn’t a test you pass. It’s a journey you walk — with questions, doubts, moments of wonder, and plenty of real life in between. Whether you’re returning after years away, starting again after hurt, or simply wondering if there’s “something more,” you are welcome here.

What Christians Believe (in ordinary language)

Christians believe that at the heart of everything is love — not a distant idea, but a God who knows us, cares for us and meets us exactly where we are.

We believe that God came close in the person of Jesus, whose life showed what love looks like when it’s fully lived out: compassion, courage, forgiveness, justice, welcome. Christians try to follow his way — imperfectly, honestly, and supported by one another.

We believe that God’s presence, often called the Holy Spirit, is still at work today: comforting, strengthening, nudging us towards hope, and helping us become who we are meant to be.

And we believe that every person — including you — has worth, dignity and purpose. Not because of what you achieve, but because you are loved.

It’s not about having every answer. It’s about discovering a life shaped by love, grace and hope.

A broad and generous church

Methodism includes a wide range of perspectives and experiences. Not everyone sees everything in the same way — and that’s okay. Within our congregations you’ll find people who read the Bible differently, pray differently, express faith differently, and bring different life stories to the table.

What holds us together isn’t having identical views.
It’s a shared commitment to love, grace, community and following Jesus.

We believe that honest conversation, listening well, and respecting one another’s experiences help us grow. You don’t have to fit a mould here. There’s room for your questions, your perspective and your story.

What’s distinctive about Methodism?

You don’t need to understand every label, but if you’re wondering what shapes us, here are the values at our heart:

Faith lived out in everyday life.
John Wesley, who began the Methodist movement, believed that faith should show up in kindness, justice, generosity and standing alongside people who are struggling.

Grace, again and again.
God’s love goes ahead of us, surrounds us, and keeps welcoming us back. No perfect people required.

Community that cares.
No one grows alone. Methodists gather in small groups, friendships and supportive circles where people can be honest, brave, encouraged and cared for.

Love that includes everyone.
Methodists have a long history of working for justice — from opposing slavery to fighting poverty, supporting healthcare and education, and championing equality. Today, that shows up in our commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and dignity for all.

Faith and thinking together.
You can ask questions here. You can disagree. You can wrestle with scripture. Curiosity is welcomed.

If any of that resonates — the welcome, the community, the justice, the grace — you might feel surprisingly at home in Methodism.

What exploring faith with us looks like

You won’t be expected to sign up to anything. You won’t be put on the spot. You won’t be asked to pretend you’re someone you’re not.

Instead, you’ll find space: space to breathe, to wonder, to talk, to listen, to doubt, to hope.
You can sit quietly at the back.
You can join a relaxed small group.
You can come to a community event first if that feels easier.
You can have a private conversation with a minister when you’re ready.

There’s more than one doorway in.

If you’d like to take a first step

You can explore the “What’s On” page, come to a service, join a discussion group, or simply reach out for a conversation.

However you choose to begin, we’d be delighted to walk with you.

No shame. No strings. Just love.
